Fricks Chosen Most Outstanding Faculty
Member
Brad Fricks, Spanish Instructor at Northeast Alabama Community College, has
been chosen as the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Most Outstanding
Faculty Member for 2008-2009.
The announcement was made recently at a luncheon at the college. Dr. David
Campbell, President of NACC welcomed the group and said, “This is always a very
special day and one of the most important activities we do here at Northeast.
Mr. Fricks is an outstanding choice for this award and recognition. In addition
to his excellent work in the classroom, he helps out the college and contributes
in so many ways.”
The announcement was made by Mrs. Lora Mae Davis, Chair of the Founders’ Chair
Committee. Davis said, “It is good to be with you again. Each year our committee
looks forward to nominations from faculty and students which help in the
selection of a faculty member for the Founders’ Chair Award. You have chosen a
career with many, many challenges. In today’s technical, scientific, and fast
moving computer age your expertise is most valuable. We would encourage you to
continue down the pat of a much needed, yet rewarding career. Over the years,
Northeast has seen very capable, dependable, and willing instructors. A teacher
can have a profound impact on our children and their future. After all, who
knows, one day you might have the honor of having taught another Albert Einstein
or Bill Gates.
“The Founders’ Chair Committee thanks you for your hard work and leadership this
past year,” continued Davis. “Thank you for letting us share in the delicious
lunch today. A special thanks to Dr. David Campbell, a strong supporter of
faculty recognition, and his assistant, Pat Wildman; Dr. Joe Burke, Vice
President/Dean of Instruction, and his assistant, Angie Stewart for their help
and support in this program. A special thanks to the SGA President, Jordan
Hendricks, for his help with this program. We wish Jordan well in his future
challenges.
“This year’s recipient has given four years of service to Northeast as a Spanish
Instructor and meets all the criteria as outlined by the committee. He is an
outstanding teacher and leader. It is my pleasure to announce Mr. Brad Fricks as
the Outstanding Faculty Member for 2008-2009,” concluded Davis.
Upon receiving the award, Fricks expressed appreciation to the committee for the
honor and said, “Words cannot express how honored I am to receive this award. I
am in good company to be named among the college’s outstanding faculty members.
Thank you for this honor.”
As recipient of the award, Fricks also will receive a cash stipend, is featured
in the NACC yearbook, is recognized at graduation, and has his name placed on a
plaque displayed at the college.
Fricks is in his fourth year as full time Spanish Instructor and is the sponsor
of the college chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the national two-year
college honor society, as well as serving on multiple committees
and volunteering for campus activities. He received his bachelor’s degree and master’s
degree from the University of Alabama.
Members of the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Committee include Mrs.
Lora Mae Davis, Chair, Joyce Kennamer, Pat Freeman, and Kathy Cook. Freeman
said, “I want to congratulate Mr. Fricks. He is truly an outstanding faculty
member.” Cook expressed how much she enjoys serving on the committee. “You learn
so much about what is going on here at the college,” she said. Kennamer added,
“This is an outstanding college with outstanding faculty members. I have sent
three children here and one grandson is now attending. And I have seven great
grandchildren on the way! Keep up the good work.”
