Reception to Honor Psychologist for
Donating Professional Library
On June 3, 2009, Northeast Alabama Community College hosted a
reception honoring Barbara Jacobs Heath, Ph.D., Licensed
Psychologist, for the donation of her professional library to
the Northeast Alabama Community College Library. The
professional library consisted of almost 250 books.
Dr. David Campbell, President of NACC,
recognized Heath for her numerous professional accomplishments
and thanked her for the donation. "Dr. Heath has had an
outstanding career as a psychologist and mental health care
administrator," stated Campbell. "It is very generous of her to
donate her professional library collection to us. The collection
will greatly help our faculty and students educationally. We
also have the books shelved separately so that students can see
first-hand the type of knowledge that must be acquired to be an
effective psychologist."
Dr. Heath earned a B.A. from Lambuth
College, as well as an M.A. and a Ph.D., both in psychology,
from George Peabody College, which is now Vanderbilt University.
During most of her career, she was a licensed psychologist in
both Tennessee and Alabama, and she held various offices in
state and regional psychology associations. Her work experience
included serving as the clinical director of a two-county mental
health center, working fifteen years in private practice in
Northeast Alabama, working twelve years as a full-time
psychologist with the Three Springs Company, and consulting and
teaching at Northeast Alabama Community College and the
University of Alabama in Huntsville. In 1982-1987, she was
appointed by the governor to serve a five-year term on the
Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology. Dr. Heath, who retired
from active practice in April 2007, is married to Mr. Charles M.
Heath, Jr., and has one child, Ms. Lesley Jacobs.
