Northeast Wins Coveted Higher Education
Marketing Awards
Northeast Alabama Community College recently was notified that
it is the recipient of three awards in the Twenty-fourth Annual
Admissions Advertising Awards competition by the national
Higher Education Marketing Report (HEMR). To date, this is
the highest number of awards received by NACC in a single
competition with HEMR.
The Aurora literary magazine received a Silver award in
the category of Publication/Internal Group 2: School with
2,000-4,999 students. “The literary magazine at NACC is so much
more than just a forum for our students, for it also serves as a
recruiting tool,” said Reeves. The literary magazine is
published annually by the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Sigma Kappa
Delta and the English and Fine Arts Department of NACC. “Through
the writing competition we sponsor for area middle and high
schools, we are able to reach out to potential students and
offer those ‘budding’ authors a chance to see their work in
print. The Aurora has truly been a labor of love and
continues to reflect the amazing work being done by Alabama
community colleges.” Other winners in this category included The
University of St. Thomas in Houston (gold) and Central Lakes
College in Minnesota (bronze).
The College’s new 30-second television commercial entitled
Fall Semester Registration: “My future!” won an award of
Merit in the category of Television Advertising/Single Ad, Group
2: School with 2,000-4,999 students. “We are very proud of this
production. It has been one of our most successful commercials,”
said Debra Barrentine, Director of Promotions Marketing for
NACC. “We are very pleased that the HEMR recognized our
marketing efforts.” Other winners in this category included
Colorado State University-Pueblo (gold), University of South
Carolina-Aiken (silver), Hodges University-Florida (bronze), and
Molloy College-New York and Southern Arkansas University (awards
of merit).
Also a winner was the 2008-2009 NACC Catalog/Student Handbook
in the category of Catalog, Group 2: School with 2,000-4,999
students. Northeast won an Award of Merit in this category.
“This publication takes a lot of coordination and effort. It is
especially an honor to be awarded in this category with the
competition so tough,” said Barrentine. Other winners in this
category were: West Point (gold), Colorado Mountain College
(silver), Wor-Wic Community College-Maryland (bronze), and
Lourdes College-Ohio and Central Lakes College-Minnesota (awards
of Merit).
It was 24 years ago that this national competition began its
efforts to recognize the field of admissions marketing and
advertising. Today, the industry has matured into a
sophisticated and competitive field, meeting the needs of
knowledgeable prospects who are making their own educational
decisions. It is the largest educational advertising awards
competition in the country. This year, over two thousand entries
were received from more than one thousand colleges, universities
and secondary schools from all fifty states and several foreign
countries.
Recently the publication was renamed Higher Education
Marketing Report (formerly Admissions Marketing Report)
to more appropriately reflect the expanding role of marketers at
colleges and universities.
A complete listing of winners in all categories can be found at
the
www.hmrpublicationsgroup.com Web site. For the last several
years, Northeast consistently has been a recipient of these
coveted national awards.
“We are very pleased that Northeast has won this national
recognition,” said Dr. David Campbell, President of NACC. “Aurora,
our literary magazine is just outstanding. Mrs. Joan Reeves and
her staff do an excellent job with this publication. And letting
people know about Northeast and what is available here is an
extremely important function of the College. Mrs. Debra
Barrentine continues to do an excellent job with all our
promotions. These awards are testimony to the excellent work our
staff is doing.”
