Medical Transcription Now a Certificate
Program
Northeast Alabama Community College is now offering a Medical
Transcription Certificate program. This program will prepare
students to perform medical transcription in a variety of
settings, including physician offices, hospitals and home based
companies.
Medical transcriptionists are responsible for processing
detailed clinical reports such as physicals, histories,
consultation reports, operative and diagnostic reports, and
discharge summaries. It is considered to be one of the fastest
growing occupations, growing faster than the average for all
occupations through 2014. It is very popular with people who
want to work at home and has become a popular career for nurses
who want to apply their medical knowledge in an at-home career.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this program at the request
of our medical assisting advisory committee,” stated Mike
Kennamer, Director of Workforce Development at NACC. “Medical
Assisting continues to be one of the fastest growing occupations
in the nation, and we are pleased to be able to expand this
program to offer additional opportunities to our students”
continued Kennamer.
Upon completion of the program the student is eligible for the
Registered Medical Transcription examination (RMA). For more
information please contact Rachel Walker at

“A
focus for Northeast now is to establish programs that can be
completed relatively quickly and can lead to good jobs,” stated
Dr. David Campbell, NACC President. “Given the high unemployment
rate in our area and the large number of layoffs that have
occurred, we want to help our citizens find new avenues for
careers. Our certificate program in Medical Assisting is an
example of these efforts.”
Summer registration is May 29.
