Winning Streak Continues: Mustangs Grab
More Gold at First Fall Quiz Tournament
The Northeast Alabama Community College
Mustang Quiz Team took a first-place team trophy at the October
16 Fall Kick-off Tournament hosted by Faulkner Community College
in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Fourteen community college teams from
Alabama, Mississippi and Florida competed in Jeopardy!-style
competition on college academic subjects.

Northeast sophomore Cord Pack also
won a trophy for his individual performance, placing
fourth out of more than 60 students competing. Rounding
out the first place team were sophomore Casey Lowery of
Huntsville, sophomore Tyler Hughes of Higdon, and
sophomore Jake Summerford of Sylvania. Lowery finished
fifth overall individually.
Freshman Jeffrey Taylor of Sand
Rock finished in the top 20 at number 11 for his
individual performance.
“These students represented Northeast so well. They are
tough competitors, and all the other schools seem to
know who they were. This year is off to a good start,”
said Paul Stevenson, a Northeast instructor and Quiz
Team co-sponsor.
Other sponsors of the Northeast
Mustang Quiz Team are Brad Fricks, Kevin Holt, Daphne
Huntley, Don Reeves and Brent Satterfield.
In final playoff rounds, Northeast defeated Snead State
Community College and Florida’s Chipola Community
College, which bested Northeast last year in national
competition at Orlando, Florida. |

contestants. |
The second Northeast team finished sixth
among the fourteen teams, defeating Lurleen B. Wallace Community
College and Jeff State Community College. Brena Beason of Fort
Payne, Cody Putman of Paint Rock Valley and Hunter Thompson of
Scottsboro also competed on the second team.
In November, the Mustangs will travel to Orlando, Florida for
competition against more than 25 community college teams from
around the country.
