Summer Youth Theatre Workshop
A Summer Youth Theatre Workshop was recently conducted at
Northeast Alabama Community College. As a result of the
workshop, 42 youths ranging in age from 10 to 15 got some
hands-on experience in the college’s renowned Theatre
Department. The workshop consisted of five days of intense
theatre curriculum including play production components, basics
of acting, improvisation, and dance.
Each day began at 9:00 am with vocal and body warm-ups, followed
by a breakout session with individual teachers, and concluded
with an ensemble session. Current and former Northeast drama
students worked with the youth each day. The NACC students were
Lydia Armstrong, Autumn Brown, Cody Brown, Taylor Campbell,
Devin Kennamer, Judy Nicole Kirby, Ally Nelson, Kayleigh Smith,
and Laura Spears. The students conducted workshops on inner
resources, physicalization, vocalization, and characterization.
Regan McClung directed the camp and coordinated all activities.
NACC Theatre Technical Director Brad Archer designed the set and
lighting. NACC Theatre Director Mark Webb supervised all aspects
of the camp. The summer theatre camp was capped off with a
variety show complete with performances from each group
reflective of their specific content, as well as a dance number,
which was choreographed by Kayleigh Smith.
“The Summer Youth Theatre Workshop always is a great event to
have on our campus,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell.
“We enjoy having these students with us. Our NACC Theatre staff
consisting of Mr. Mark Webb (Director), Mrs. Regan McClung
(Theatre Office Manager), and Mr. Brad Archer (Theatre Technical
Director) and their assistants work very hard at making this a
personally and educationally rewarding event for the
participants and their families. As always, they were right on
the mark this summer with another very successful workshop.”
NACC Theatre’s upcoming productions will be Death of a
Salesman, Little Shop of Horrors, and Steel
Magnolias. We hope to see you “at the theatre”! Seating is
reserved, and all tickets are $5.00. For more information,
contact the Theatre Department at phone ext. 218 or
