Students Receive Strong Foundation in Academic Transfer Programs of Study
Each year, many students choose to enroll in Northeast Alabama Community
College’s numerous transfer programs of study. NACC offers a broad range of
education opportunities for the student whose goal is to transfer to a four-year

Students receive valuable help at NACC as they plan their transfer because many
factors go into the decision of choosing a program of study right for them.
Academic advisors, the Office of Student Services staff and Transfer Advisor
Jessica Benefield will all be of assistance to students during the decision
making process.
In addition to offering a strong foundation for the freshman and sophomore
years, the academic transfer curriculum is coordinated with all public four-year
institutions in Alabama to ensure the transfer of credits through STARS
(Statewide Articulation Reporting System). It is a computerized articulation and
transfer system that tells Alabama community college students exactly what
courses will transfer to specific major programs at each state-funded four-year
institution. STARS is an efficient and effective way of providing students,
counselors, and educators with accurate information upon which transfer
decisions can be made. The STARS database, if used properly, can prevent the
loss of course credit hours, can provide direction for the scheduling of course
work, and can ease the transition from one institution to another.
The success of students transferring to another college or university following
NACC is important, and advisors at the college are committed to helping students
transition their way to earning those next degrees. By consulting the four-year
institution regularly and taking advantage of the resources available at the
college, students may ensure that the transfer process is a positive experience.
Kyle Nix, a sophomore at NACC majoring in English education, has just begun the
process of transferring to The University of Alabama. “Everyone here at NACC has
been helpful,” said Nix. “I have enjoyed my time here.” Nix accessed the STARS
Web site (http://stars.troy.edu) for the transfer information he needed for his
major. “STARS is really, really helpful. I am glad that we have it.”
