President/CEO of TVA Presents Donation
to NACC
Tom Kilgore, President and CEO of Tennessee Valley Authority
presented a personal donation to Northeast Alabama Community
College Foundation last Friday, December 9, 2011 while attending
the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet. Kilgore
was the Keynote Speaker for the event and gave an update on the
organization’s ongoing initiatives. Earlier this year Kilgore
recommended to TVA’s board of directors to reopen Bellefonte in
Scottsboro, Alabama. Completing this plant will help TVA to
become a leader in clean energy through nuclear energy.
NACC is ready and eager to help the people of DeKalb and Jackson
Counties through programs to prepare for the new jobs that will
be available through TVA. In 2011, NACC offered an Associate in
Applied Science in Engineering Technology to prepare technicians
to support the work of engineers. “An associate degree in a
technical field like Engineering Technician is a first and
required step in getting accepted into many of the TVA training
programs for many fields,” stated Dr. David Campbell, NACC
President. “In fact, we worked with TVA Workforce managers in
developing this program. We greatly appreciate Mr. Kilgore’s
donation to our Foundation and students.”
Kilgore is a native of Ider in DeKalb County. His personal
donation will help students with scholarships in the Math,
Science, Engineering and Technical fields. “Strong technical and
scientific skills are important to TVA and to many of the
industries locating in this region,” Kilgore said. “As a native
of north Alabama, it’s great to see NACC working with TVA and
others to prepare students for the jobs of the future.”
All donations given to NACC’s Foundation support the mission of
the College and provide scholarships to students. To learn more
